peaches in cave

June 2007
PEACHES exhibits at the 2007 Montreal Biennale:

Peaches built a cave using articles of clothing thrown or given to her during or after her live performances. Over the past four years she has collected more than three-hundred items, ranging from customized undergarments to full costumes.

In this installation, appropriately titled "Peach Pit, A Fanbase" visitors are invited to crawl through the illuminated cave of clothes. Rubbing up against these objects evokes the audience experience of a live show and gives the viewer the chance to appreciate the Peaches fans' work and their desire to express themselves.

To further emphasize the "fandemonium," live concert footage plays inside the cave. The video is a compilation of thirty performances featuring fans on different show nights in various cities spontaneously getting on stage with Peaches and singing her successful underground hit FUCK THE PAIN AWAY.

The outside of the cave is covered in hair which references Peaches' ongoing exploration of societal taboos vs. norms regarding gender and body hair.

The exhibit will be on display through July 8th. For more information visit: http://www.ciac.ca/biennale2007/en/index.html
